Power of
positive thinking:
On 3rd September 2001, a meeting of the
Human Development Study Circle, Mumbai
was held to discuss the very powerful topic of Power of positive
Thinking. The
speaker for the evening was Rashmikumar Zaveri,
senior Chartered Accountant, and
very
active member of the community.
He successfully conquered Cancer in 2000 by meditation and
medication.
The thoughts of Rashmi Zaveri about relationship between soul and body are
worth remembering throughout life. As
he said, soul is independent of body and we should try to be an observer of
and NOT a participant of the pain and suffering of the body. Do not allow
the suffering and pain to disturb out mental peace. Be cheerful irrespective
of the circumstances. Meditate that the pain is in the body and soul is
different from the body. Ones soul is above all diseases, pain and
suffering. The soul is formless, colorless, and odorless. It is invisible.
You are not your body. You are not your soul. No one can touch it. No
bacteria, no virus can ever touch your soul. Any disease can never afflict
it. It is the body, which becomes ill.
His thoughts on how to manage stress effectively are very helpful to us in
our day-to-day life. Fear, anger and guilt- these three emotions are the
three great enemies of health. These are all manifestation of negative
thinking. When these (negative) emotions are repressed into unconscious
mind, they rankle and fester, they give rise to anxiety and depression,
resulting in psychosomatic diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease,
chronic fatigue, stomach ulcer, skin disorder. As fear will reduce our will
power, it will affect our ability to fight. He said that by positive
thinking one could conquer fear. We all know that laughter is the best
medicine and laughter increases the body's immunity levels by release of
several favorable chemicals into the blood stream.
Rashmibhai stressed that we must not think about our past or future. Instead,
we must live our life in the present. We
should enjoy present moments. The past events and worry about the future
should not disturb us. If one wants to live life peacefully and without
stress, one should always have purity of thoughts. One should not curse
others and must not harbor thoughts of vengeance or retaliation. Sometimes
we carry grudges for years, often repressing them from conscious memory, and
end up hurting ourselves more than the ones we would like to get even with.
We fail to see how damaging an unforgiving spirit is. Physicians
and counselors alike attest to the damage done by an unforgiving spirit. Some
medical doctors estimate that the majority of illnesses they treat are
related to emotional problems such as resentment, which is a lack of
forgiveness. Moreover, counselors see the roots of bitterness reflected in
depression, anxiety, and destroyed relationships.
To ask for forgiveness is an easy task but to forgive others is very
difficult task. Not to forgive is to be imprisoned by the past. However, to
forgive is to be free from the past. We
must keep in mind that any goodness done by us, or even a kind of gesture by
any being of the universe is worth carving on our heart. Any injustice done
to us is worth writing on the sand. Forgive and forget is the panacea for
achieving happiness and eternal peace of mind, which we all long for. One
other aspect he touched upon is that our body is a vehicle for our soul and
we as souls have to take care of our body, as through this wonderful body
only we are able to achieve whatever we want from this life.
